Sinopse:
Joe Scott (Daniel Craig) é uma estrela de Hollywood, cujo estilo de vida hedonista está a levá-lo progressivamente ao abismo. As recordações de 25 anos antes revelam um jovem Joe numa pequena cidade costeira inglesa, ao som dos Roxy Music e de David Bowie, onde os ritos de passagem a jovem adulto estabelecem as fundações para os sonhos de celebridade que acalenta. Mas, confrontado com uma tragédia, é forçado a fugir e a procurar uma vida nova. De volta ao presente, e de regresso a Inglaterra para o funeral de um amigo de infância, Joe terá finalmente de enfrentar os fantasmas do seu passado.

Comentário:
O risco que os actores correm ao encarnar personagens estereotipadas, como James Bond, é o de ser difícil a associação a outros papéis. Talvez por isso, tenha sido uma lufada de ar fresco ver Daniel Craig longe do agente secreto ou do mafioso inglês, embora a sua participação seja partilhada com o actor Harry Eden.
O filme é uma viagem da personagem de Daniel Craig à sua juventude, num elogio ao glam rock de Bowie e Ferry. Esta viagem revela a mola propulsora que distanciou Joe do seu passado.
E a catarse é conseguida através de "If There Is Something" de Roxy Music.

Porque é que Kar Wai Hong é tão sublime?
Porque cada imagem num filme seu fala por si, e quase se dispensam as palavras, os silêncios vivem. As palavras são menos, mas não se menosprezam pois vão da simplicidade à pureza "How do you say goodbye to someone you can't imagine living without?".
Mesmo num registo ligeiramente diferente, ao nível do elenco por exemplo, Kar Wai Hong, não deixa de surpreender na forma como conta histórias de encontros e desencontros, histórias de amor e de perda, mas de uma forma que foge dos clichés, sem deixar de abordar a realidade das relações humanas.

Sinopse
David Kepesh (Kingsley) é um crítico cultural de TV e professor de uma faculdade de Nova York. A sua vida era tranquila até conhecer uma jovem estudante, de 24 anos, chamada Consuela Castillo (Penélope Cruz), que desperta nele uma obsessão sexual.

Comentário:
Elegy é uma verdadeira elegia, terna e triste, à beleza. Uma elegia a uma Penélope Cruz, no papel de uma cubana de nome Consuela, jovem e espontânea, assemelhada, segundo o seu professor, à La Maja Desnuda de Goya.
Mas para além de beleza, o filme fala de amor, ciúme e posse, descobertas tardias no amadurecimento, ou envelhecimento da personagem de Kingsley: “When you make love to a woman you get revenge for all the things that defeated you in life.”
